Arcade Website First Steps |
I have started working on an arcade website one month ago. I was encouraged by the results obtained by some friends who already had a six months old gaming website and I thought I should try it too.
The initial investment is minimal. You only have to spend a few dollars on registering a domain name and paying for a hosting service. You can also begin for free if you chose to add your games on a WordPress platform.
Pick your name wisely. Spend some time researching and if you find a proper name then your chances are higher. If you want to use a hosting service make sure it is a reliable one. You wouldn't want to have your site temporarily unavailable at the beginning. The users will not return.
Add content that you like. That way the chances that other people will like it too are high. Also add some text content. If you write as much description as possible then you might rank higher with the search engines.
Use social media to promote your page and attract a small community. But do not expect much from it as I did. Facebook is a business so you won't get traffic from facing without paying for promotions.
Update your website daily or a few times a week. Your visitors will return at some point and you don't want to lose them as they will not come again if they don't see any new games.
Prepare to wait for a few months before seeing some results. Meanwhile develop your website continuously, build backlinks, and increase your social media representation. Write articles and even start a blog. Remember that any work you do is a step forward. Use all online tools that can help you improve your website (keyword suggestions, page speed and optimization etc.). It is a high competing niche but if you manage to succeed you will be proud.
As a personal conclusion it is very, very hard to grow quickly. I actually see poor results at the moment but I am willing to continue. Remember one thing: if you do not like what you are doing then you will probably fail.
